Halloween 2012

A friend of mine has been asking me for years why I don’t use my garage and build a little haunt for Halloween. I recall her making some comments once about how perfect the garage and lower portion of the backyard and walk would be for a haunt. I always just said ‘meh’… until now. This year, with my much improved health, I was ready to tackle some decorating for Halloween. Chosen location – the garage!

Why on earth had I never done the garage haunt thing? It’s so much easier!! .. and drier! (It poured this year) Ideally I would have liked to have set it all up the week prior to Halloween, but our schedules and the latest and greatest nasty flu bug made that impossible. We also had a couple Halloween parties to attend on the Saturdays leading to Halloween. Thus, no decorating until 2 days before the big day. It felt like FrightFest BC’s Halloween in August all over again with that tight of a schedule!

Skeleton in my haunted garage display.

All in all, things went well. Like anyone who does this sort of thing, as I was constructing the haunt I was making mental notes of things I could and should do next year. Envisioning utilizing the garage’s back door and the lower patio and the walkway around the side of the house. The cheap fog machines that I have been using for almost 10 years both coughed up their last puffs of smoke before the night even got underway, but they were already living on borrowed time and I look forward to replacing them both with one heftier model machine.

It’s all still set up and I will take my time and get some pictures before I tear it all down to be stored away til next year. I guess I can add that to the benefits of the garage set up. No mad rush on October 31st to get decent pictures. I started to snap some shots last night and with my camera battery almost dead, decided I could wait and take more today.. or tomorrow…

Frightfest BC Halloween in August 2012

Each August the FFBC group gets together for the annual Halloween in August event where we build a haunted house for a campground. We build the entire haunt for a one night production, learning from each other and discussing ideas and techniques along the way. Because the haunt is only open one night, I always find it a challenge to get in and get enough pictures! This year my camera decided it didn’t want to cooperate right when I needed it most so I borrowed a friends camera, which decided it was tired and needed a recharge. Luckily we got enough pictures between the two cameras. The only thing I missed out on was the graveyard scene outside, so I am hoping some good night shots surface of that from fellow FFBC members.

The building we used to create the haunt:

My contribution this year was the mining tunnel. It was really fun to put together! I am grateful for the assistance I had from some fellow FFBC-er’s in putting the columns up.

Below are a few of the pictures of the end product.

Some pictures from the Frightfest BC annual Halloween in August one night haunted house.

Built from the ground up over 2 days, open one night, and gone the next day.

Unfortunately there wasn’t a lot of time for snapping shots. I got most of these the night before the haunt was completed instead of after we had finished the build. My camera also decided it would work sporadically and with much attitude so I missed getting pictures of a lot of the details.
