An army of tiny white polymer clay skulls. Some will be made into beads for my witch potion bottles. Others have yet to be assigned duties.

The Maman is a huge spider by Louise Bourgeois that guards the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain.

This picture by Manuel Domes is really cool… even though spiders scare the hell out of me.

Skull Book Giveaway

Another thank you I should have sent out forever ago, is one for being selected as a finalist in the 2008 Haunter’s Video Awards. Sorry I did not post this sooner.

Paul ‘Propmaster‘ Venturella does an excellent job each year compiling a DVD series of haunts from all over the globe. This set is judged each year and awards given in different catagories. 2008′s winners are listed below, but go take a peak at all the great haunts that won in previous years as well!

August Updates and a ‘Thank You’

I would like to send out a heart felt thank you to everyone who has sent their get well wishes my way. It’s touching to hear from you out there.

An update …

I am still waiting on surgery! I was supposed to go in on July 30th, but the hospital had to cancel all surgeries that day due to the heat wave we were experiencing. The air conditioners couldn’t keep up, and the humidity in the operating room was showing at 85%, which creates a nice environment for bacteria to grow on sterile objects. On top of that, the hospital was experiencing a bed shortage, as quite often happens during a heat wave.

So for now I am resting a fair bit. I have good days and bad but so long as I try not to over do anything, I am managing fine. I was even able to go to the annual haunt gathering in our area recently, which I would not have been able to go to at all had the surgery gone ahead on schedule. I will add a post about that separately though.

I am now on a waiting list for surgery, and have been rescheduled for September 10th if I can’t get in sooner.

Six weeks of excuses.

My new studio space has yet to turn out any big new props. (Though I do have many ideas floating in my head waiting to be created!)

I would like to blame this all on the fact that I have not been in the best of health this year. Though I suspect my awful tendencies toward procrastination may have much to do with it…. I am scheduled for surgery this month and after a six week recovery, look forward to having procrastination as my only excuse!

I’ve managed to make a few small items for the shop, but have not created anything substantial…. YET.

The studio isn’t done, but it’s beginning to be a usable space. I have been slowly moving boxes in and filling shelves, and have three 8′ tables where my work benches will be. Found most my supplies for making jars, and a bunch of matching tiny jars, so I made this set of 12 potion additives. I had almost forgotten how fun it is to make these!

Making fingers is one of my favorites… they look so nasty.

Another prop I want to bring with me this weekend so I finished her this afternoon…

I had sculpted her face last year before Halloween, and then she sat in the basement… bald, grumpy, and only half a body… collecting dust for MONTHS. Originally I thought I might make 3 of these hags, and this one was going to be leaning on her broom. Then while camping one of my kids found a nice walking stick and we decided to bring it home for the hag to use.

I didn’t take many picture of her as I made her. Her face was pink because of the mache pulp I was using.
